Trailer Time! – Ladies Night Edition

I realize that I don’t post a lot of movies that are aimed at female demographic of my site.  I apologize for that egregious lack of female centric films and I plan to make it up to you with one movie preview and one movie preview only.  Well actually I plan to make it up to you all with the one post that will totally redeem myself cause this will be the movie of the year.  It has it all mind; dancing, male strippers, bump n’ grind, Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Alex Pettyfer, based on real events and directed by Steven Soderbergh.  This piece of cinematic orgasm is called…

Summer Movie Spectacular: May Edition

Let’s be honest, summer movie season starts earlier every year much like Christmas shit is put up in stores in September.  Now I think it is because there is some sort of secret society that is forcing Christmas, X-Mas, Holiday whatever to start earlier and earlier as a consumer plot to rid of us our money.  Whatever, but Hollywood is taking a page out of their books  and starting to release big budget flicks in May to start the foaming of the rabid fanboy mouth early.  So I am here to give you the rundown what will be the good stuff you should come May, June, July and August.  And by good stuff, I mean the shit I think is worth seeing, also some picks that you should avoid.

This first go around, is the May flicks.  So prep your wallet for some movie watching.

Trailers of the Week – Red State & Knights of Badassdom

Two more trailers to get you excited for upcoming movies.  Decided to pull the Comic-Con trailer for Knights of Badassdom!  The other trailer is for Kevin Smith’s upcoming Red State, his independently financed, produced and distributed film which I got the pleasure of seeing when he came to Kansas City on his roadshow tour.  I will give a review on the movie when it comes out again and the final version is screened.  Let’s do this…

Red State:

The teaser above was the first glimpse into the latest Kevin Smith project, one that essentially unlike any of Smiths previous movies and really showcases that he can direct something other than two people talking about pussy.  I digress, the movie is, in short, incredible.  The cut I was able to see at the Midland showing was just so unique to what he has typically done that you aren’t sure if you are watching a Kevin Smith movie.  Dynamic camera angles, erratic tracking shots, and action and violence.  Nothing like his past movies, so this is why the movie just sticks out to us.

The movie is essentially a horror/action movie where the villains are a fanatical group of religious zealots, based on the Phelps family in Topeka, KS.  Red State follows three, young men who are trapped in this religious compound trying not to get killed by the church members and also not getting shot by the Federal Agents who just outside the compound gates.  I can’t wait to see if there were any changes done to the movie to make it a bit tighter, but given he has made some utterly outside his typical wheelhouse, I say keep it as is.   The newest trailer, instead of the teaser trailer, can be found here from Ropes of Silicon.

Trailers of the Week – Double the Fun!!!

So last week I missed out on the update, my bad.  So in order to make amends for the glaring oversight in the content of my site, I am giving you four trailer to wet your appetite.  One is a comedy from Zombieland director Ruben Fleischer, next is a another good/weird movie from the mind of David Cronenberg, then Cuba’s first zombie movie and last a British spy film that has every famous Brit actor minus the cast of  Harry Potter in it.  Lots of trailers, so lets get started.

30 Minutes or Less

I loved Zombieland and was eagerly awaiting the latest directorial movie from Ruben Fleischer.  This looks like a really funny R-rated comedy with Jesse Eisenberg and Aziz Ansari.  Even throwing in Danny McBride and Nick Swardson as the villains of the movie just make this even better.  The latest red band trailer is one of the few red bands that is actually funny and gives us better look at what to expect comedy wise.

A Dangerous Method

Alright so we have David Cronenberg, a man whose movies are visually intense and the subject matter can be dicey, then take the story of the relationship between Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung , finally add Michael Fassbender and Viggo Mortensen into the movie.  I am so fucking there.  Cronenberg movies are a bit hit and miss sometimes, but given his latest track record, I am excited to see a movie where he looks to show the birth of Psychoanalysis and see another movie where we he works with Viggo Mortensen . Not a typically Cronenberg movie, but it will intriguing regardless of the subject matter.

Juan of the Dead

Touted as Cuba’s first horror film, I got to say this looks awesome.  I love me some zombie films and if they are aiming to do a zombie comedy, why not go after Shaun of the Dead.  I am expecting the movie to get a release on digital channels, no theater distribution unless America has some rule about that current embargo that it has on Cuba.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy

Ok, what actor in England is currently not attached to this movie.  Holy shit that is a lot of talent in one room, and sophisticated talent I might add since they are British.  I am going to list off who is in the movie and you tell me this doesn’t sound awesome: Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Mark Strong, Colin Firth, John Hurt, Stephen Graham, Toby Jones, David Dencik, and the most British ever, Benedict Cumberbatch.  Short of the Harry Potter cast and the people from the British Office show, this is a solid lineup.  Throw in the fact that Tomas Alfredson is directing (Let The Right One In), I am excited for a British spy movie.  Damn, I need to drink some tea and watch the footie match now.
