Movie of the Day – Masters of the Universe

Holy shit balls!  I got to continue with my so bad it’s good movie streak here and Masters of the Universe is just plain bad, but surprisingly a train wreck of a movie to be enjoyable in the Mystery Science Theater sense.  The trailer was just bringing up memories of terrible acting, wooden characters, shitty 80s special effects and a poor Flash Gordon-esque movie that is based on the He-Man toy property.  Its got everything I want in a bad movie that I just downright love it.

Movie of the Day – Small Soldiers

I want to buy these action figures if they really existed.  Not the cheap, plastic ones that they made in conjunction with the release of the movie, but the ones that had a military chip in them that brought to life to attack their human owners.  Yeah, for an upbeat trailer like that, they really didn’t tell the audience that these toys were out to kill the humans in the rudimentary way possible.  Yeah, not you standard G.I. Joe’s type kid movie.  But damn if wasn’t an awesome movie from 1998.

Movie of the Day – Blank Check

I had to come back to this movie after my recent string of early 90s movies that passed themselves off as kid/family entertainment.  I remember Blank Check as a wise-cracking kid film that shows how far a million dollars can go in 1994 and the sort of wish fulfillment that I dreamed of if I had the sort of cash that the kid had.  I mean, come on, a castle, a wall of tv’s and all the toys you could want!  Well this movie does offer up some terrible life lesson and glaring defects in the banking and enforcement industry.  Also, I guess a million dollars was a lot in 1994, but that wouldn’t even seem like a lot in 2012, that is if this movie were to be remade, which it might cause Hollywood loves to do remakes.

Movie of the Day – G.I. Joe: The Movie

Normally I would post a trailer before diving into the meat of the film post, but to be honest, I only need to post one thing from this amazing kids television movie.  Cartoons in the 80s was, still is, the shit.  You can take your Nickelodeon toon’s and shove it cause it doesn’t get better than watching 30 mins commercials for toys that fucking ruled.  I have been watching the G.I. Joe cartoon on Netflix this past week and it has been awesome.  I am recapturing the essence of my childhood in marathon sessions of “Yo JOE” and PSA’s about knowing something about battles or whatever.  Personally, the series was kick ass but the movie, oh God, the movie was truly a stroke of genius.  Sure, they didn’t follow through with their plan to kill off a main character, but for me G.I. Joe The Movie had one of the amazing openings to a movie in forever.  Check out below:
