Movie of the Day – Shaolin Soccer

In the back of my mind, I think if American Soccer was anything like this, then there wouldn’t be any question as to the popularity of the sport.  Then again, I think people would be contrarian for the sake of being contrarian against soccer, so it is a moot point.  Anyways, what I am getting at here is some half-assed connection between today’s movie, the state of sports fanaticism and what I will be doing today, cause I like to pick relevant movies that I like that happen to coincide with what I am doing this day.  No, I am going to see shaolin soccer as that doesn’t exist, thus making me sadder at the fact.  Yes I am going to see a soccer match tonight, so go Sporting KC.

Movie of the Day – Victory

Tonight, while I am currently blogging about this movie, our Sporting KC team is out there playing in the playoffs.  The game so far is exciting and I decided on the movie today should be one that supports our team.  Victory is one of those “what the fuck” movies as I never knew that there was a soccer movie that contained Sir Michael Caine, Sylvester Stallone and Pele together in a movie that has them playing soccer against Nazi Germany.  So pick your jaw off the ground while I tell you a bit more about Victory.

Movie of the Day – Once in a Lifetime

Now this isn’t about the Talking Heads song by the same name, this is about a documentary that was on my radar and then fell off for some reason.  Probably lost track of it since it didn’t come to a theater near me so I just plain forgot about it.  Well thanks to Netflix for the recommendation as I saw it on the UI dashboard and immediately watched it.  Once in a Lifetime is about this “weird” time in America when Soccer was the biggest thing around.  As much as Americans love to deride Soccer and how boring and lame it is, there was a time during the 70s when it was the sport to be watching.  The phenomenon all started from one team and one superstar that changed the landscape of sports and how we viewed the game of Soccer.
