Movie of the Day – Contagion

Well, I think this movie perfectly sums up how I feel currently.  I am in the midst of battling illness, one that is definitely winning as I came home work and pretty much it all hit me like a sack of bricks.  I was fine Saturday, I was ok this morning, but something about coming really lets your defenses down and the cold to take over.  I assure you, I don’t need Matt Damon to come and help me out, but it would be cool to hang out with him for the day.   Just saying if that ever happens it would be cool.

So, what a perfect movie to instill fear in the populace with the threat of a global pandemic of sinus infections, coughing and chest congestion.  CONTAGION!

Movie Review – Total Recall

You will not find a bigger fan of the 1990 version of Total Recall than me.  Nary a chance goes by me to use the “See you at the party, Richter!” line for appropriate and inappropriate occasions.  I love the rough, over-the-top violent nature of Paul Verhoeven film where the boundaries of R-rated violence gets pushed to the bring.  I love seeing Arnold and his thick Austrian accent shout out his lines and make silly, guttural noises as he shoots an untold amount of people.  I love the absurdity of the characters from the titular (ha) three boobed hooker, mutant baby thing Kuato and eye-bulging atmosphere of Mars.

So like any good thing, Hollywood can’t let it be.  The recent “remake” to come out of Hollywood basically takes only the name, characters and three-boobed hooker and decides to turn down the volume on the ultra-violent, futuristic action film of 1990 to that of a PG-13 CGI fest starring really pretty people.

Movie of the Day – Drive

Drive.  I could go at length about how amazing this film is and how it was a damn travesty that it wasn’t nominated for more Oscars other than the sound mixing one which was just a meager bone thrown to the fans of Drive.  I guess that is why I am posting about it today, to make a point about how unbelievable this movie is.  Sure, the movie is made out to be this Fast and Furious clone, which I guess if you are in it for the car chases, you won’t enjoy this movie.  Hell, some lady sued the people who made the movie because the trailer made it seem like a action film.  While I that lady should kick rocks, I guess that might be a deal breaker for a lot of people.  If you can look past this “flaw”, what you will fine is one of the most dynamic films that is a genre mash-up like no other.
