Movie of the Day – Piranha 3-D

Boobs, beer, violence, overacting, cheesy horror, gore, laughable b-movie, b-movie grade villain/threat, more boobs, nudity and general absurdity that can only come from a movie that manages to get all those elements in one movie.  Also through in the fact that the 3-D medium is used to comedic effect and also to show boobs in 3-D, I can’t see why this isn’t on everyone’s top ten list.

After a sudden underwater tremor sets free scores of the prehistoric man-eating fish, an unlikely group of strangers must band together to stop themselves from becoming fish food for the area’s new razor-toothed residents.  (source)

Anyone going into this movie and expecting something other than what was presented to us in glorious, gratuitous manner really need to check on their ability to comprehend the simplest things.  Piranha 3-D delivers exactly what the trailer shows us, except more R-rated and with a lot more gore and nudity.

I realize that this is a pretty bare bones post, but then again I am choosing a movie in which the big selling point is seeing Piranha’s attack and maim people in 3-D.  Also the other biggest selling is boobs and ample amount of nudity.  I am doing some deep searching on what makes these Piranha’s want to kill or why two women just make out in a lake infested with the piranha, but it is what it is.  It’s the most base satisfaction to turn off your brain for 90 minutes, watch chaotic scenes of violence, laugh at the cheesy nature of the movie and then go home feeling a bit satisfied.

I made it a point to see this in theaters and it met all my limited expectations.  There isn’t anything profound about the film, as it was just harkening back to schlocky b-movie greatness that people like Roger Corman brought to the big screen.  It’s a direct homage to the original Piranha film of 1978 from Joe Dante and current director Aja decided to add in all the trimmings that we come to expect in campy films today.  Which is all the over the top violence you can get and more titties than you can shake a stick at.

Done and done.
