Movie of the Day – Anchorman

Do I honestly need to explain myself with this choice?  I mean really, what sort of insight can I add to a movie like this that will get you to see it.  Should I discuss about the subtext of hubris and how the ego’s of man are truly their inevitable downfall?  Maybe I could discuss about the modern day comedy in which it is no longer about script and story, but trusting that the actors that you have on cast will place themselves into the mindset of their characters and thus produce a natural, free form of conversation  that is both irreverent and funny?  All I can honestly say is that this is one of the funniest comedies out there and one of my favorite Will Ferrell movies as well.  The movie is filled with some of the best comedians and comedic actors around, the subject matter is hilarious and is incredibly quotable.

One of my favorite things about this movie is that they just let their actors ad lib and go off script a lot.  This allows for off the cuff the moments and phrases and it gives the actors a bit more breathing room to come up with in the heat of the moment.  The fact that they just kept rolling and letting the actors go on and on meant that they would have a lot of unused footage, which makes for great deleted scenes and bloopers.  The one thing that a lot of people don’t know is that because of the shooting schedule and the amount of footage they shot, meant that they were able to practically make another movie from it, which they did called Wake Up, Ron Burgundy – The Lost Movie.  In some of the special edition releases, viewers were treated to a whole other movie which branches off from the main movie into a side story that was dropped in the original run.  You can find the clips on youtube or online else where, but you have to love that Anchorman spawned a second side film that is equally as funny.  Plus you will recognize a lot of the scenes in the second movie show up in the original trailer.

I know what I am watching tonight and you should do the same and watch Anchorman.
